According to an official, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will investigate the Ahmedabad Plane Crash on Thursday.
The Air India Dreamliner Boeing 787 aircraft crashed into an hostel building, with 242 people on board, including 12 crew members.
The official further said that AAIB Director General and Director of Investigation at the agency and other officers will be leaving for Ahmedabad soon.
AAIB is responsible for the justification of the safety concerns involving aircraft operations in the Indian airspace crashing into serious air accidents, according to the civil aviation ministry. The agency focuses on investigating the accident and suggesting measures to improve safety.
"We are aware of initial reports and are working to gather more information," Boeing said in a statement.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu expressed shock at the plane crash and said he was personally monitoring the situation.
"We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action.
"Rescue teams have been mobilised and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site," he said in a post on X in the afternoon.
The minister, who was in Vijayawada, rushed to Ahmedabad to oversee the situation on the ground.
Additionally, Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran has expressed deep sorrow over the Ahmedabad Plane Crash and announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the families of the victims.
“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving flight AI 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured,” said Chandrasekaran, in a statement released on Thursday evening.
The group has also pledged to cover all the medical expenses for those injured in the Ahmedabad Plane Crash and ensure they receive the care and support they require during recovery.
In addition to personal assistance, the Tata Group will also extend support for the rebuilding of the BJ Medical College hostel, which was struck during the crash. The building, a doctors’ residence located near the airport perimeter, suffered significant structural damage after a London-bound Air India flight, AI 171, crashed into the structure, shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.
