Air India, India’s flag carrier, has entered into a codeshare partnership with Air Astana, the national airline of Kazakhstan, to enhance connectivity between the two countries and beyond. The agreement will see Air India place its ‘AI’ code on Air Astana flights operating between Almaty and Delhi, and Almaty and Mumbai.

The move builds on the existing interline agreement signed earlier this year and will allow Air India customers to enjoy seamless travel from cities across India to Almaty on a single ticket, with baggage checked through to the final destination.

Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD of Air India, said, “This partnership strengthens our footprint in Central Asia and provides our customers with greater travel options. It also supports growing tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges between India and Kazakhstan.”

Peter Foster, CEO of Air Astana Group, added, “India is a key strategic market for us. This comprehensive codeshare will significantly enhance passenger flows, particularly among business travellers, tourists, and students.”

The upgraded partnership gives Air Astana access to 18 domestic and 9 international destinations on Air India’s network via Delhi and Mumbai. Air India passengers, meanwhile, will benefit from improved access to Central Asian destinations like Astana, Bishkek, Tashkent, Dushanbe, and Urumqi via Almaty.

Codeshare flights are expected to be progressively available for booking, subject to regulatory approvals, across Air India’s website, mobile app, and travel agencies.

This development comes as Air India continues its Vihaan.AI transformation plan under Tata Group ownership, focused on modernising fleet, operations, and customer experience.
