The farmers say they would lose their livelihood if their land was acquired for the airport. The farmers turned violent and pelted stones at the police damaging a few police vehicles. <o:p></o:p>

The police then fired in the air and used lathisu00a0and tear gas shells. Some farmers were arrested. Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa alleged that Congress was behind the Bellary incident. "It is a conspiracy of the Congress to tarnish the BJP's government's image," he said.
