After the German Bakery blast, a second terror attack was apparently planned in the city by the Lashkar-e-Taiba during Ganeshotsav, with the target being the popular Shrimant Dagdushet Ganapati. But nothing happened. The reason, it is believed, is the arrest of Mirza Himayat Baig from the city and Shaikh Lalbaba Mohammad Hussain alias Bilal in Nashik in the nick of time. The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) got hold of them a day before Ganesh Chaturthi, the first day of the festival. Following threats of the terror attack, the Shrimant Dagdushet Ganapati Trust (SDGT) had made elaborate security arrangements during Ganeshotsav. Now these arrangements are to continue. Over 100 CCTV cameras were installed with three independent security agencies working day and night to protect the devotees who throng the popular Ganapati of City Post Chowk, off Laxmi Road, during Ganeshotsav. Even after Ganeshotsav, elaborate security arrangements are in place at the Dagdushet temple, with CCTV cameras and two security agencies working three shifts to cover all 24 hours of the day. On September 7, the ATS caught Baig from the Mahatama Gandhi Bus Stand, while his accomplice Bilal was picked up from Nashik. "Security threat is an old issue of concern," said Mahesh Suryavanshi, treasurer SDGT. "This year Ganeshotsav was most challenging for us as the threats were many, and we installed over 100 CCTV cameras. We covered the nearby areas also, including the Babu Genu Mandal, Shrinath Theatre and Majur Adda." According to Suryavanshi, the SDGT had three different security agencies keeping the its Ganapati safe. The CCTV visuals were monitored from the nearby Faraskhana police station.
