Three days after an auto rickshaw driver tried to molest a 26-year-old woman and then physically assaulted her when she resisted, police managed to arrest him while he was attempting to flee the city on Saturday night. The auto driver has been identified as Satyajit Kisan Dilpak (22), a resident of Bhekrainagar in Kalepadal near Hadapsar, and is a history-sheeter. On-record criminal He has one offence registered against him at the Hadapsar police station under section 393 (attempt to commit robbery) and another offence under section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) at the Swargate police station, said Police Sub-Inspector P M Lonare, investigating officer from Hadapsar police station. The incident The incident had taken place in the early hours of Wednesday morning when the survivor alighted from an outstation bus near the Hadadare-Kale petrol pump near Hadapsar. The girl, a management graduate, had arrived from Solapur for a job interview at the National Research Centre for Grapes in Manjari, and was looking to hire an auto to her destination. Initially, the accused refused the fare, but then changed his mind and agreed to ferry her. However, instead of taking herto the centre, Dilpak took her to an isolated location in Manjari. The victim shouted for help, but Dilpak threatened to kill her if she resisted. Dilpak punched the victim on her face, head and chest and tried to undress her. But, the girl managed to escape from the spot and reached the main road where local residents rushed to her help. Local residents called up the police control room but till then the auto driver had fled from the spot. Breakthrough &ldquo;The victim had told us that the auto rickshaw had a broken headlamp and working on this clue, we managed to trace Dilpak. He was about to flee from the city when we nabbed him,&rdquo; Lonare added. &ldquo;We are now trying to ascertain where Dilpak had gone after committing the crime on Wednesday morning, who are the persons who helped him and whether anyone else was involved in the crime,&rdquo; Lonare said. Dilpak was produced in the court yesterday, and has been remanded in police custody till tomorrow. u00a0
