Liquor parties are becoming a no-no in Lonavla as cops crack down on those getting drunk in the open

Watch out guys if you plan get drunk and party in the waterfalls of Bushi Dam or some other picnic spot in Lonavla as the local police have started a crackdown on those drinking in open spaces. Yesterday, 10 such revelers four from Pune and six from Mumbaiu00a0were booked for consuming alcohol and behaving indecently on the streets, under Section 110 and 112 of the Bombay Police Act (BPA).

The police have identified 23 spots across the hill station that are frequented by weekend crowds. These spots include Bhushi Dam, Tiger Hill, Tiger Point and Shooting Point in Khandala, which will be monitored by the police throughout the day.

Police Inspector Balraj Lanjile said, "Earlier, we used to patrol these spots just four days a week. Now we ensure that an officer is present on these spots with the patrolling van on all seven days of the week," he said.
Lanjile also revealed that the Lonavla police currently possesses just one breath analyser and has asked for one more from the Pune Rural Police.

Moreover, Lanjile added, "Since the floating population on weekends touches 1.25 lakh and the floating vehicles number 25,000, we have asked for 30 additional policemen to control the crowd."

Lanjile further pointed out that there are very few parking spaces in Lonavla. "Vehicles are often parked haphazardly on the roads. This obstructs the traffic. We are hiring a towing crane to remedy this, and hope to begin towing such vehicles in 15 days," he said.
