The Mahatma Phule police in Kalyan yesterday arrested a garage mechanic and detained a minor worker for stealing motorcycles to fit their parts on other bikes.
The police recovered 11 motorcycles that had been stolen.
Aslam Khatib, assistant inspector of the station, and his staff were recently patrolling a vada pav stall near the Kalyan station. &ldquo;The two mechanics pulled up on a motorcycle. They claimed that they had the vehicle&rsquo;s documents in their garage. We seized the bike and asked them to return with them,&rdquo; said Khatib.
When the two failed to turn up days later, the police began probing, and found that the bike had been reported stolen. The duo was then nabbed.
