What you are attempting to achieve through your music?

I am basically from Delhi but have been staying in Mumbai for the past eight years. I have been learning classical, light classical, thumris and Sufi music. For the last seven years, I have been training under Shri Mohinderjit Singh, a well-known music composer, violinist and singer. I have also organised corporate shows for the Birla Group, under the company name of "Aura". We also design concept shows that are happening in the city.
Do you think formal training is a must for singers?
Definitely. Classical music may not be popular, but our culture is based on it. Training is a must for all singers.
What do you think about contemporary Indian music?
It is definitely at a good stage. There was a time when we did not have everlasting songs, but now melodious music is making a comeback. We have imbibed a lot from the west in terms of sound and tones and plus we have our own melodies, that are rich in classical undertones.
What do you think about reality shows?
They are a great platform to showcase one's potential. Our stalwarts made it big only after a lot of struggle but things are easier for the younger generation. In fact, these competitions give you instant recognition.
Tell us about your upcoming performance.
Swarmilan is based on the compositions of eight Marathi music composers, who have contributed to Hindi and Marathi films, such as Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Sudhir Phadke. We are doing Geetmala for an NGO called SOFOSH. The concept is based on the Binaca Geetmala, which was an erstwhile popular radio programme. In fact, Amin Sayani who compered the radio programme, will also be presenting an audiovisual on a music director, which will be followed up by us singing his songs. The music directors that will be featured include greats such as Naushad, Shankar Jaikishen and SD Burman.
