A day after MiD DAY published the story on 10 worst roads in the city (&lsquo;Rs 1,275 crore have given Mumbai this&rsquo;, June 1), city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte yesterday and demanded formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate why the roads were still in such a bad shape and where did the funds allotted for repair works go. <a href="http://www.mid-day.com/news/2013/jul/010713-10-worst-rain-hit-roads-in-mumbai.htm" target="_blank"><img alt="Click to view: Rs 1,275 crore have given Mumbai this" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/jul/Print-BMC.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 409px;" /></a> MiD DAY report on June 1 &ldquo;BMC officials and contractors are responsible for fixing potholes. The SIT should also inquire Additional Municipal Commissioner Aseem Gupta, in-charge of the roads department,&rdquo; BJP city chief Ashish Shelar said. The civic body had allocated Rs 1,275 crore in the budget for the year 2012-13 to execute repair works and reconstruction roads and bridges in the city. Shelar, along with BJP corporators, met civic chief and discussed the various issues during their hour-long meeting. &ldquo;The Standing Committee has cleared the proposals in time and sanctioned the funds, but still the pre and during monsoon works remains incomplete. Officials and contractors are responsible for the mess, as they have the power to execute allotted tasks,&rdquo; he said. Shelar claimed that during the meeting, Kunte assured him of considering his demand of forming a SIT. &ldquo;If the municipal commissioner fails to initiate an inquiry, the BJP will agitate,&rdquo; he said. He also instructed 33 corporators from his party to follow up on civic issues seriously on every front during each of the BMC meetings. u00a0
