Indian Railways is in its 160th year and to mark this special year, Central Railway is planning to give Cotton Green railway station a boost. For this, they plan to rope in local associations and trader bodies to take care of the station. Pic/ Shadab Khan &ldquo;This is for the first time that an association has come forward to take care of a railway station. In this case, the Cotton Association of India has taken the initiative. We will be conducting meetings with them soon,&rdquo; said Mukesh Nigam, divisional railway manager (Mumbai), CR. In fact, CR had tried last year to entice private players and corporates to take care of Thane railway station, in exchange of advertising rights. But the scheme hadn&rsquo;t found any takers. This time, authorities hope the heritage value of Cotton Green will help them get people on board. &ldquo;They will pay for upkeep of toilets, have replicas and portraits showing its history, and in general, maintain the premises,&rdquo; said another CR official about the scheme. Cotton Association of India refused to comment on the matter, saying the discussions were still at a nascent stage. The history of Cotton Green Cotton Green played a pivotal role in cotton trade in the early 20th century. Cotton Exchange, a beautiful art deco building in the area stands testimony to this fact. It is a pre-independence building, having been built in 1924. Along with the structure, there are a series of warehouses that were used to store grains.u00a0
