A red Ford EcoSport suspected of being linked to the Delhi Red Fort blast case has been located and seized in Khandawali area of Faridabad, police said, reported the PTI.
A spokesperson for the Faridabad Police told PTI, “Yes, it has been found in Khandawali village.”
Earlier, Delhi Police had issued an alert to all police stations, posts, and border checkpoints across the capital in an effort to trace the red Ford EcoSport.
The alert followed revelations during the investigation that other suspects already connected to the Hyundai i20 used in the explosion were also in possession of another red-coloured vehicle.
At least five teams from Delhi Police were deployed to locate the car, while neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Police were also alerted to maintain heightened vigilance and assist with the search and investigation, according to the PTI.
Sources told the PTI that the red Ford EcoSport is registered to Dr Umar Un Nabi, who is alleged to have been driving the vehicle prior to the blast.
The car’s registration details were circulated to all border units, and the information was shared with both the UP and Haryana Police to intensify the search efforts.
The vehicle is suspected to have been used by Umar for reconnaissance purposes.
Meanwhile, the Faridabad Police continued their search and combing operations on Wednesday.
Teams led by ACP Crime Varun Dahiya visited Al-Falah University and the residence of Dr Muzammil Ganaie — one of the prime suspects arrested in connection with the recently busted white-collar terror module — located on the university campus, police said, as per the PTI.
An analysis of dump data retrieved from Dr Ganaie’s mobile phone revealed that he had conducted multiple reconnaissance trips to the Red Fort area in January this year, officials added.
Delhi Police suspect that these visits were part of a broader conspiracy to target the historic monument on Republic Day, which was ultimately thwarted due to intensified patrolling in the area at the time.
A senior investigating officer said that the team had also questioned the landlord of Ganaie’s rented accommodation in Dhauj village. Central investigation teams from Delhi also arrived at the university, where several doctors and students were questioned for about an hour.
Sources further said that a Jammu and Kashmir Police team involved in the investigation into the Delhi car bomb blast had also reached Al-Falah University in Dhauj.
“Our search and combing operation is ongoing, and teams are questioning residents in the surrounding area. All police units remain on high alert,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson stated.
