After an intense blast near Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi, security has been stepped up at all major stations. The Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in view of tightening the security measures across all major stations, has indicated to the authorities to be more vigilant.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also conveyed condolences to the families of those killed in the blast on Monday evening, reported by PTI.

Earlier on Monday, a high-intensity explosion ripped through a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station, leaving nine people dead. As per the reports, around twenty people were injured in the blast that gutted several vehicles.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, while posting on social media platform X, said, "Deeply saddened by the tragic blast in Delhi. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the recovery of the injured," as cited by news agency PTI.

The Union Railway Minister further added that "all major railway stations are on high alert with special security arrangements."

Hours after the blast, the Northern Railway had also issued a statement asserting that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP). The authorities and the forces are on high alert with strict security arrangements at all stations in the Delhi-NCR region.

The Northern Railways further said that security arrangements at major stations such as New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Ghaziabad were reviewed, with all possible measures taken into consideration; the security has been enhanced without causing inconvenience to passengers.

Himanshu Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway, while talking to the media, said that "all railway officials and security personnel deployed at these stations are on high alert with strict security arrangements. RPF staff have been deployed at various points, including station entry gates, exit gates, and platforms," as cited by news agency PTI.

He further added that "multiple dog squads have been pressed into service for checking passengers' luggage as well as the premises in and around stations," as cited by news agency PTI.

Northern Railway officials said close coordination is being maintained with the GRP, and the railway premises and surrounding areas are being monitored through CCTV cameras as well.

The officials further added that "persons with suspicious behaviour are being checked thoroughly. We request all passengers to remain calm and cooperate with security officials engaged in ensuring safety," as per PTI.
