Management of radio cab service has dismissed accusations of cheating, reneging on promises levelled against them by protesting drivers

The Easy Cabs management has dismissed charges of cheating and reneging on promises levelled against them by some drivers. Officials said that the drivers were making these "unwarranted and untrue" claims because three errant drivers got a disciplinary grounding following passenger complaints of abuse, misbehaviour and rash driving.

They said the three drivers, Anand Murthi, Krishna Murthi and Eshwar Prashant, coaxed 15 fellow drivers into joining their protest against the management and took to organising dharnas outside the Easy Cabs office on MSR Main Road.

This reporter witnessed one such protest ('The management is robbing us', MiD DAY, November 9), which took place after 2 am wherein the protestors called for an end to the alleged 'injustice' committed against them.

Vikas Marwah, Chief Operating Officer, Easy Cabs, said, "This whole thing began after we were forced to ground three drivers on receiving numerous complaints against them.

We tried counselling them and even requested them to behave, but, when they refused, we had no choice but to ground them."

He said that while the Karmikar Sangma, a BSP outfit, claimed on the night of the sit-out organised by them that all 750 Easy Cabs were off the streets, 539 Easy Cabs were plying throughout the city.

Marwah also rubbished the Karmikar Sangma's claims that the management failed to provide documents promising ownership of the cars after completing four years of service.

"We have documents, in Kannada for their benefit, that have been signed or fingerprinted by the drivers, which do not state any such claims. We never promised them cabs after four years," he said.

He added that while the cabbies claimed the management had robbed them of thousands of rupees,
it was actually the three cabbies and some other drivers who owed the management sums ranging from Rs 38,000 to Rs 1.30 lakh.

The Other Side

>>The protestors, however, still stand by their version.
>>M Ravi Kumar, a member of the Sangma, said, "Not one passenger has complained against our drivers.
>>It's not true. They are being targeted by the management. They also send rowdies to attack our drivers. We have given them so much money."
>>Easy Cabs denied all the accusations put forward by Kumar.
>>"That person is a ring leader who continues to hold on to two company cabs after we've asked him to give them back to us.
>>He owes us money, not the other way around," said Marwah.
