Friends and collaborators remember Feroz Khan as a stylish yet warm personality, a guardian angel and the man who threw the best parties in town

I have been designing Feroz's clothes for many years, and we grew to be friends. Two years ago, we went on a shopping spree for lampshades and he chose Italian ones from a place on Lavelle Road. He revamped his entire wardrobe six months ago and I enjoyed working on it with him.

'Charming, impeccably mannered'
Our families have known each other since we were children. My dad, Suresh Malhotra, was a film distributor. My brother, Sameer, acted with Fardeen Khan in Prem Agan. I designed Manisha Koirala's outfits in Yalgaar, which Feroz Khan directed. I have lovely memories of Feroz's farmhouse parties. He was stylish, charming and impeccably mannered. I don't think there can be another Feroz Khan. He had such a warm personality. People will always remember him for his films, but I will remember him for his manners and hospitality. He was always a perfect host. His parties were the best in town. The poolside was always dazzling. We knew he was suffering. He made it a point to spend time with his family in Mumbai ever since he got to know that he had cancer.

'He loved horses'
I have known him for the last 30 years. I am yet to meet a more large-hearted man. He was suffering from cancer for the last one year. He was in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai a few days ago but insisted on returning to Bangalore as he wanted to be in his farmhouse when he breathed his last. His one last wish was to be buried next to his mother at the ground near Johnson Market on Hosur Road. He loved horses and accompanied me and my husband, Dicky Singh, to check out horses. The food at his parties was the best I've had in the world.
Reeth Singh, family friend

'He had a big heart'
Feroz Uncle has been my guardian angel since I was six years old. He helped to make me what I am today. He had a big heart.

Classy till the end
The stylish Feroz Khan had mourners to match. Grieving friends and relatives, who visited his classy farmhouse yesterday to pay their last respects to the man who set great store by personal style, were perfectly turned out.

Dilshad Begum, Feroz's sister, though clad in simple white, stood out with her flawless complexion, drop-dead gorgeous looks and rock-size solitaires.

Laila Khan, the late actor's daughter, hid her grief behind outrageously-sized Bvlgari shades, sister-in-law Natasha sobbed behind her Gucci pair while family friend Vinita Hedge didn't take off her Versace shades even for a moment.

The stunning and impeccably dressed women, including designer Seema Malhotra and Reeth Singh, whose husband Dicky Singh breeds horses, carried oversized Louis Vuitton bags. Almost everyone carried Blackberries, iPhones and N72s. However, the shades came off and the phones went into silent mode when it was time for prayer.
