Complainant Pradeep Kumar G S told MiD DAY that he had filed the complaint in June last year, but the police didn't take any action then.

After waiting for six months, he brought up the matter before the 6th additional chief metropolitan magistrate, who then issued directions to the police to take up the case.

Case filed

On Saturday, the Ulsoor Gate police lodged a case against Malini for securing a job using false documents.

The complaint was also against Muralidhar, Professor at UVCE for helping Malini in cheating the government by signing the forged papers.

The complaint also accuses two others including Mohan and Mudduveeraiah, chief administrative officer of the DG & IGP's office for failing to verify the documents.

"We see lots of innocent people falsely implicated and undergoing punishments, but, this is a clear case of cheating and the guilty are scot free," said Kumar adding that he filed the case as a concerned citizen.

"Through this case, I also want to send a message to the society that anyone can file a complaint against anybody if he has substantial evidence to prove his case." Malini was unavailable for comments.

'Motivated move'

Reacting to the complaint, Mohan termed it as an act of ulterior motive. "The complaint has been filed with a personal reason and targets only a few.

We have followed the procedure while recruiting Malini after informing the home department.

If we are guilty in this incident, then even the committee formed by the government while recruiting Malini and officials of the home department are equally responsible," he said.

Other complaints

It may be recalled that earlier Transparency International (TI), an NGO had also filed a complaint with the Lokayukta charging Malini of tampering with her date of birth on SSLC marks card.

The NGO had also co-accused Malini, Mohan, Muralidhar, and Mudduveeraiah. The complaint stated that they had willingly aided and abetted the crime.

Recently, the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) where Malini had filed a case objecting to her dismissal has been dismissed.

Srikumar, the then DG & IGP, had recommended Malini's dismissal on December 24.u00a0 It is still pending with the home ministry.

The Ulsoor Gate police have taken up the case against Malini, Mohan, Muralidhar and Mudduveeraiah under section 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), among other sections.
