Can the consumption of spurious liquor unravel the racket of printing fake holograms?

On Saturday, three people were nabbed by the police, who were allegedly involved in the death of 35 people in various parts of Uttar Pradesh due to the consumption of spurious liquor. The gang was into the production of fake holograms of excise department of various states and used to sell it in the market at higher prices, said police.

The three men were identified as Manish Keshwani (34), Anoop Kumar (34) and Raj Kumar (37). They used to make fake holograms of not only the excise department of many states, but also of private companies like Hero Honda, Anchor, Nokia, Usha and Paras.

u00a0Acting on a tip off, the police raided their house in Shastri Nagar in north Delhi, and seized the hologram-making machine and fake holograms of excise department of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry and Chhattisgarh. "Manish and his brother Mukesh Keshwani are involved in this illegal trade for the past three years.

They were running a unit of hologram manufacturing at Rithala. Mukesh used to control the unit and used to give directions to Manish and Anoop. Mukesh used to get master prints and dyes from China. The gang would then collect orders for manufacture and would supply fake holograms to prospective buyers in Delhi and others states," said ACP (crime) Neeraj Thakur.

The police also said that Anoop, a friend of Manish, was a software engineer and was in the business of repairing computers. Manish roped in Anoop alias Hemant into this trade in December last year in order to shift the unit to Anoop's house in the Shastri Nagar area. Anoop agreed and they shifted the hologram-manufacturing unit to the ground floor of Anoop's house in Shastri Nagar from Rithala in January 2010.u00a0

However, the lamination machine, being large in size, was kept at Rithala.u00a0u00a0
Sources in the police said the government signatures of two states were authentic in the fake hologram case, and they are further investigating the case.
