Police in Hyderabad have arrested a 27-year-old bike taxi driver for allegedly impersonating a cybercrime official and extorting large sums of money from unsuspecting victims through online scams, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Jala Sai Ram Reddy, a resident of Telangana’s Karimnagar district, was apprehended by the SR Nagar police following a complaint registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Investigators said Reddy created fake profiles of women on social media platforms, primarily ShareChat, to initiate conversations and build rapport with users.
