Haryana IAS officer Virender Kundu, whose daughter Varnika, 29, a DJ, was allegedly stalked by a senior BJP leader's son and his friend, yesterday took to social media to seek "maximum punishment" for the accused, adding that he would move court if charges against the duo were "diluted".
"We will join the investigation whenever required by the police. We will contest in court if we feel the charges are diluted or inadequately framed," the bureaucrat said in a Facebook post.
Kundu said the accused, being law students, were fully aware of the consequences of their action.
"We want them to be punished for the offences they have actually committed, and that the awarded punishment commensurate with their culpability. Not over-punished, but definitely not under-punished either," he said.
Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala's son Vikas, 23, and Ashish Kumar, 27, were arrested for allegedly stalking Varnika. However, they were released on bail as they were booked under bailable sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act.
Varnika speaks In a comment that he has since back-tracked on, Haryana BJP vice president Ramveer Bhatti had said about Varnika, "Why was she allowed to roam around at night? Parents should not allow their children to stay out late... what is the point of roaming around at night?"
Responding in an interview to NDTV, Varnika said, "It is none of his business, it is my business and my family's what I do and where... If it weren't for men like these, I wouldn't be unsafe going out... whether it was 12 am or 2 am or 4 am."
She added, "If it happens at night it's my fault? Can the men not control their urges at night? Why am I being questioned? I am the one who was under attack... but they are not questioned..."
