Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Rajghat in New Delhi on Friday to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi as India celebrated its 79th Independence Day, reported ANI.

This year, the Independence Day theme is 'Naya Bharat,' reflecting the government’s vision of realizing a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.

From Rajghat, PM Modi will proceed to the Red Fort, hoist the national flag, and deliver his 12th consecutive Independence Day address to the nation, reported ANI.

Upon reaching the Red Fort, the Prime Minister will be welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The Defence Secretary will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area, to the Prime Minister.

The celebrations will also highlight the success of Operation Sindoor. The view cutter at Gyanpath will display the operation’s logo, complemented by floral arrangements, reported ANI.

Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the Prime Minister in hoisting the flag, followed by a showering of flower petals from two Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopters — one carrying the national flag and the other the Operation Sindoor flag. The aircraft will be piloted by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal.

After the petals are showered, the Prime Minister will address the nation. NCC cadets and 'My Bharat' volunteers will then sing the National Anthem, reported ANI.

A total of 2,500 cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with 'My Bharat' volunteers, will be seated on Gyanpath opposite the Rampart, forming the 'Naya Bharat' logo.

To encourage 'Jan Bhagidari' in the national celebration, approximately 5,000 special guests from various walks of life have been invited to witness the Red Fort events. These include the Indian contingent of Special Olympics 2025, winners of international sports events, Gold Medalists of Khelo India Para Games, top-performing farmers under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission, and beneficiaries of PM Awaas Yojana Gramin, among others.

For the first time, band performances will take place across India on Independence Day evening to boost patriotic fervor and celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor. Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles will perform at over 140 locations nationwide, reported ANI.

Under PM Modi’s call, the Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan has inspired citizens with patriotic fervor. The 2025 campaign builds on previous successes, providing fresh opportunities for citizens to connect with the national flag in personal and community-driven ways, reported ANI.
