Pakistan on Monday unveiled details of its global diplomatic push to seek international support following the recent conflict with India and to highlight the importance of dialogue in addressing issues between the two countries, reported the PTI.
However, the diplomatic outreach comprises two delegations moving in different directions to garner support for the country, the Pakistan Foreign Office said in a statement.
The move follows India's deployment of seven multi-party delegations to 33 global capitals as part of its diplomatic outreach after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, reported PTI.
“On Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's directive, a high-level multi-party delegation will visit New York, Washington DC, London, and Brussels from 2 June 2025," the Foreign Office (FO) said.
The nine-member delegation is led by Pakistan People's Party Chairman and former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Other members include Federal Minister Musadik Malik, former foreign ministers Hina Rabbani Khar and Khurram Dastgir Khan, former ministers Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari and Sherry Rehman, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, and two former foreign secretaries—Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tehmina Janjua.
Meanwhile, another delegation led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi will visit Moscow from June 2. The details of its composition were not shared.
The two delegations will engage in a series of meetings with international leaders, public officials, senior government personnel, parliamentarians, think tanks, media representatives, and the diaspora, the FO said, according to PTI.
"The visits of these delegations are aimed at projecting Pakistan's perspective on the recent Indian aggression," the statement added. The delegations will also “highlight that dialogue and diplomacy should take precedence over conflict and confrontation.”
The need for the immediate resumption of the normal functioning of the Indus Waters Treaty will also be a key theme of the delegations' outreach, according to the FO.
According to PTI, Pakistan had announced last month that it would send a team of experts to foreign capitals to inform the world about the four-day conflict with India and present its perspective on the issue.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following the Pahalgam terror attack, with India conducting precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7.
Meanwhile, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. However, India responded strongly to these actions.
It is worth noting that the on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding to cease military actions after talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of both sides on May 10.
