The Indian Army on Tuesday denied media reports and social media posts claiming that a soldier, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed his car into a crowd in the Nagardhan area of Nagpur on August 3, injuring around 30 civilians.

In a statement, the Army said the reports — which carried headlines such as ‘Drunk Army Officer Rams Car Into 30 People In Nagpur, Thrashed By Locals’ — were “false and misleading” and not supported by facts verified with local police.

According to the amy, the incident involved Havildar Harsh Pal Mahadev Waghmare, a resident of Ramtek, Nagpur, who is currently posted in the North East and was on leave. On August 3, around 6.30 pm, he was returning from a relative’s house when he had a minor altercation with locals over parking.

The army said Waghmare was then chased by four individuals. While trying to get away, his car hit a tree. He was allegedly pulled out of the vehicle, assaulted by the four men, and his car was damaged and pushed into a drain.

Waghmare approached the Ramtek Police where a first information report (FIR) was filed against the four people on Monday. The army said details of the incident had been confirmed with the Ramtek Police and corroborated by the Superintendent of Police (Rural), Nagpur.

The statement added that the local military authority was coordinating with police for a speedy resolution of the case, and that all assistance was being provided to the soldier.

“This case is a stark reminder of the danger posed by sensationalism in reporting incidents. This incident may also be a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of the Indian Army and create divisions where none exist,” the statement said, urging the media to verify facts before publishing.

Army shares 1971 news clip highlighting US role in arming Pakistan

Against the backdrop of mounting criticism from United States (US) over India buying crude oil from Russia, the Indian Army on Tuesday posted a news clip from August 1971 that highlighted the role played by the US in arming Pakistan “since 1954”, PTI reported.

The clip was shared in a post by the Eastern Command on X.

#IndianArmy #EasternCommand #VijayVarsh #LiberationOfBangladesh #MediaHighlights ‘This Day That Year’ Build Up of War – 05 Aug 1971 #KnowFacts. US Arms Worth $2 Billion Shipped to Pakistan Since ’54,” it said.

The news item, published a few months before the 1971 India‑Pak War that led to the creation of Bangladesh, details the role the US had played in arming Pakistan over nearly two decades.

“US Arms Worth $2 Billion Shipped to Pakistan Since ’54,” the headline reads.

The report quotes VC Shukla, then minister for defence production, telling the Rajya Sabha about the estimated valuation of the arms supplied during that period.
