India is all set to carry out its first space launch of the year today, as the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) prepares to deploy the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C62 mission from the First Launch Pad (FLP) at SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota.

The ISRO in a post on X had stated, "The Launch of PSLV-C62 Mission is scheduled on 12 January 2026 at 10:17 hrs IST from First Launch Pad (FLP), SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota."

According to the news agency ANI, Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium Director, BR Guruprasad, said on Sunday, “On January 12, 2026, India will conduct its first launch of the year. The PSLV is one of the most reliable launch vehicles globally and has successfully deployed spacecraft such as Chandrayaan-1, Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1, and more.”

Speaking to ANI, Guruprasad added that this will be the 64th mission of the PSLV. The launch aims to place an Earth observation satellite named Anvesha, EOS-N1 into a polar sun-synchronous orbit, at an altitude of at least 100 kilometres above Earth’s surface.

"It will be the 64th launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle. This vehicle is going to take a satellite called Anvesha, EOS-N1, an Earth observation satellite, into a polar sun-synchronous orbit, probably a couple of hundred kilometres above the Earth's surface," he added, reported ANI.

Earlier, on December 24, ISRO successfully launched the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite for the United States' AST SpaceMobile. The satellite was successfully placed in orbit, and the mission was declared a success.

The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 8:55 AM IST.

The mission deployed the next-generation communication satellite designed to provide high-speed cellular broadband directly to smartphones worldwide. The BlueBird Block-2 spacecraft would be the heaviest payload to be launched into Low Earth Orbit in the history of the LVM3 rocket.

"Heaviest satellite ever lifted from Indian soil using an Indian launcher": ISRO Chairman after launch of BlueBird Block-2 satellite

Earlier in December 2025, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan lauded the successful launch of the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite, describing it as the heaviest satellite ever launched from Indian soil using an Indian rocket.

He said the satellite was accurately placed into its designated orbit, calling the mission a major milestone for ISRO, reported news agency ANI.

During his speech, V. Narayanan said, "The launch vehicle has successfully and precisely injected the BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite into the intended orbit. This is the first dedicated commercial launch for a customer from the USA, AST SpaceMobile. This is our 104th launch from Sriharikota, and also the 9th successful mission of the LVM-3 launch vehicle, demonstrating its 100 per cent reliability."

This mission, which was the first dedicated commercial launch for US-based AST SpaceMobile, also marked the 104th launch from Sriharikota and the 9th successful flight of the LVM-3 launch vehicle.

He added, "This is a back-to-back mission of the LVM-3 in just 52 days. This is the heaviest satellite ever lifted from Indian soil using an Indian launcher. This is also the third fully commercial mission of LVM-3, and the vehicle has demonstrated its excellent track record," reported ANI.

The satellite was precisely placed into its designated orbit, following which the mission was declared a success. The launch took place at 8:55 am IST on December 24, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The mission carries a next-generation communication satellite designed to deliver high-speed cellular broadband directly to smartphones across the globe. Notably, BlueBird Block-2 is the heaviest payload ever launched into Low Earth Orbit by ISRO’s LVM3 rocket, underscoring the growing capabilities of India’s heavy-lift launch systems.

The satellite is part of the next generation of BlueBird Block-2 communication satellites, designed to provide space-based cellular broadband connectivity directly to standard mobile smartphones, ISRO said, reported ANI.
