A day after the Supreme Court criticised Rahul Gandhi for his remarks, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut alleged that the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha has an "anti-India mindset" and frequently speaks in support of the country’s enemies, reported ANI.
On the SC pulling up Rahul Gandhi over his alleged comments on the Indian Army following the India-China clash in 2022, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut told ANI, "Rahul Gandhi always speaks against India, be it on the economy or defence forces. He speaks in support of enemy nations. He has an anti-India mindset. So, this is a welcome move by the Supreme Court that they pulled him up. In the time to come, others should be mindful that they do not hurt the honour, integrity and morale of India."
As reported by ANI, a bench comprising Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih criticised Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, questioning how he claimed that China had occupied 2,000 square kilometres of Indian land. The bench remarked that a true Indian would not make such a statement.
Justice Datta said, "How do you get to know that 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory was occupied by China? What is the credible material? If you are a true Indian, you would not say this. When there is a conflict across borders... Can you say all this?"
The bench also questioned senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing Rahul Gandhi, asking why Gandhi chose to make such statements on social media instead of raising them in Parliament. "Whatever you have to say, why don't you say it in Parliament? Why do you have to say this in social media posts?" asked Justice Datta.
Rahul Gandhi had made the remarks on December 16, 2022, during his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
Gandhi had said, "People will ask about Bharat Jodo Yatra, here and there, Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot and whatnot. But they will not ask a single question about China capturing 2,000 square kilometres of Indian territory," "killing 20 Indian soldiers" and "thrashing our soldiers in Arunachal Pradesh," reported ANI.
"But the Indian press doesn't ask them a question about this. Isn't it true? The nation is watching all this. Don't pretend that people don't know," he added.
