Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday launched ‘MahaStride’, a new initiative aimed at making Maharashtra a Rs 35 trillion economy in the next five years.
The launch was held at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Mihan in Nagpur district of Maharashtra, in the presence of top officials and representatives from the World Bank, an official statement said on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, CM Fadnavis said that the state’s newly-formed institution MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation) will play a key role in guiding this transformation.
CM Fadnavis called MahaStride a landmark initiative that will ensure data-driven and outcome-oriented planning across all districts.
“Maharashtra Government is an institution; when its capacity and structure are built correctly, transformational change is inevitable. With this thought, we first rolled out a 100-day administrative-reform drive, followed by a 150-day programme. Today, we have symbolically launched MahaStride -- an initiative that will become a landmark effort directing Maharashtra’s development," Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
“We don’t lack funds. What we need is well-planned, data-led execution,” he said.
CM Fadnavis said that Maharashtra’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown significantly -- from Rs 15 trillion in 2013-14 to Rs 45 trillion in 2024.
He said that he aims that the state reaches Rs 35 trillion more in the next five years, with equal contribution from every district, not just the top seven.
CM Fadnavis urged the District Collectors in the state to assess their economic output and actively plan for growth in their areas.
Fadnavis said that MITRA would act as a think-tank and provide strategic guidance for development.
“It will become a key institution in shaping Maharashtra’s future,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde echoed this view, calling MITRA “the chariot that will take Maharashtra forward” and emphasised the importance of inclusive growth -- ensuring development in backward districts and talukas as well, the official statement said.

Nagpur Division: Avishant Panda, Collector of Gadchiroli
Amravati Division: Bhuvaneshwari S., Collector of Washim
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division: Kirtikiran Pujar, Collector of Dharashiv
Nashik Division: Ayush Prasad, Collector of Jalgaon
Konkan Division: Ashok Shingare, Collector of Thane
Pune Division: Amol Yedge, Collector of Kolhaur.
