Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek on Tuesday demanded for an apology from the families of both Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi for trying to ‘tarnish’ the state image and its people regarding the ongoing murder case.
Talking with ANI Meghalaya Minister Alexander Laloo Hek said, "We are thankful to the Meghalaya police for the breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation of the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. Now we are seeking an apology from Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi's families for tarnishing the image of Meghalaya and its people. We will file a case of defamation if they don't comply."
"The accused will be brought here since the incident took place in the state. We do not have any issue if they want to hand over the case to the state police, central police or the probe agency, but the truth has already prevailed," said the Minister.
Earlier the family of Raja Raguvanshi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him for a CBI inquiry regarding the matter. The couple, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam went missing during their honeymoon in northeastern state. They were last seen on May 23.
Later, on June 2, during an investigation Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge at Sohrarim near Cherrapunji in Meghalaya. Sonam Raghuvanshi was later caught near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. The police officials after finding her sent her to Sardar Hospital for medical treatment, she is now kept under Sakhi One Stop Centre, a shelter working for women who are victims of violence.
Earlier in the day, the fourth accused, identified as Anand was also sent to transit remand for 7 days.
On Monday three other accused Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Raj Singh Kushwaha are also under transit remand for 7 days.
The Meghalaya Police brought Sonam Raghuvanshi to Phulwari Sarif police station in Bihar’s Patna after completing three-day transit remand.
On Monday the Meghalaya Police got the transit remand of the other three accused in the recent honeymoon murder case.
Earlier the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed the arrest of four individuals connected to the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi.
Talking to media on June 9, Tynsong mentioned that the authorities are still in search of one suspect, shortly after arresting Sonam Raghuvanshi.
He further informed that Sonam voluntarily surrendered, and all the suspects involved in the case would be brought to Shillong for further investigation.
Chief Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor of Meghalaya’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) said that the post-mortem reports revealed that the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi suffered two head injuries.
Raghuvanshi couple were residents of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. Dead body of Raja was later discovered in Meghalaya.
