Days after 22 children from Madhya Pradesh died due to consumption of toxic Coldrif cough syrup, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav warned of taking "strict action". The Chief Minister said that his government will not spare anyone playing with the lives of children.

As of now, a total of twenty-two children, mostly from Chhindwara in MP, have died due to suspected kidney failure following the consumption of the cough syrup. As reported by news agency PTI, the toxic cough syrup was manufactured by a Tamil Nadu-based pharmaceutical company.

After the suspicious death of many children across the state, the Madhya Pradesh police arrested Ranganathan, who is the owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharma. The accused was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday in connection with the case.

Moreover, MP police, while arresting the accused, also seized some documents from his Kancheepuram factory related to the cough syrup, which turned out to be toxic.

The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, while talking to the media on Thursday, said that "Our government stands with every affected family. The safety of innocent children is our top priority. This tragic incident involving innocent children in Chhindwara has deeply saddened us," as cited by news agency PTI.

Mohan Yadav further added that, "As soon as this matter came to light, we ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The Madhya Pradesh police's SIT today arrested Ranganathan, the owner of the pharmaceutical company that manufactured the toxic drug, from Chennai, as per PTI.

While issuing a strict warning to the pharmaceutical company, the Chief Minister said that "the state government will not spare anyone who plays with the lives of children. This action is a testament to our government's sensitivity, promptness, and commitment to public welfare," as cited by news agency PTI.

Yadav further said that he will enquire about the condition of the affected children who are undergoing treatment in Nagpur, where the severely ill children are admitted.

Yadav also said that he will hold talks with the family members of the children admitted to AIIMS, New Health City Hospital, and the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
