A school bus driver ferrying children to a school in Vasai hit a biker on Tuesday morning and sped off without stopping to help. The police have arrested the driver and he is now in judicial custody.
Around 11.30am, the yellow school bus was on its way to drop students off at school. When the bus was at Bhabola Naka, Suyog Nagar at Vasai, it tried to overtake a tempo ahead of it but hit a biker coming from the opposite direction.
The bus did not stop but sped off leaving the biker, William Lopez, injured and bleeding on the road. Passers-by who spotted Lopez on the road took him to the local hospital and also informed the police. The police said Lopez&rsquo;s condition is now stable.
The police later found and arrested the driver, Appa Keshav Wagh, who is a resident of Green city, Sagar Peth, Vasai. Speaking to mid-day, inspector Sampatrao Patil said, "We have arrested the school bus driver and he was presented before the court."
A case under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of Indian Penal Code has been registered against Wagh.
