The National Commission for Women (NCW) yesterday asked the Mumbai police to ensure security of the woman journalist who has accused Tarun Tejpal, founder and editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, of sexually assaulting her. <img alt="" src="http://images.mid-day.com/2013/nov/Nirmala-Samant.jpg" style="width: 500px; height: 392px;" /> NCW member Nirmala Samant said that the journalist&rsquo;s safety was of utmost importance. File pic The move comes following a statement issued by the woman, who is based in Mumbai, that she fears &lsquo;intimidation and harassment&rsquo; as Tejpal&rsquo;s family is putting pressure on her family. &ldquo;NCW is concerned following the statement and have spoken to Mumbai police chief Himanshu Roy to ensure the girl&rsquo;s security,&rdquo; said NCW member Nirmala Samant. She said the Mumbai police have assured her that they would provide all necessary protection to the woman in case she approaches them. &ldquo;NCW is there to ensure her safety and security,&rdquo; she said. The victim, in her complaint to Chaudhury, said that Tejpal sexually assaulted her twice in the elevator in the Club House section of the Grand Hyatt five-star resort during the high-profile ThinkFest conference of Tehelka on November 7-8. The victim is daughter of a former colleague of Tejpal, who has recused himself from his post as editor-in-chief of Tehelka after being accused of sexual assault by the woman, his junior colleague. The matter came to light after intra-office communication between Tejpal, Chaudhury and the victim was leaked to the media last week. Chaudhury too has been accused of trying to hush up the matter.
