In a major counter-espionage operation, the Gurdaspur Police in Punjab apprehended two people for allegedly leaking sensitive military information related to Operation Sindoor, officials said on Monday.

The Punjab Police said that they received credible inputs on May 15 about the accused, Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh, sharing classified details, including troop movements and key strategic locations in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Acting swiftly, the police arrested both the suspects. A forensic examination of their mobile phones confirmed the intelligence inputs, reported ANI.

Authorities also recovered three mobile phones and eight live cartridges (.30 bore) from their possession.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused were in direct contact with ISI handlers and had transmitted critical information concerning the Indian Armed Forces.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered under the Official Secrets Act at Dorangala Police Station in Punjab and the authorities are probing the case further, with more disclosures expected as the investigation deepens.

Operation Sindoor: Any attempt to undermine security of armed forces will be met with immediate action, say cops

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Punjab Police said, "Any attempt to undermine the security of our armed forces will be met with firm and immediate action."

The police department also expressed full support for the Indian Army and reiterated its determination to safeguard the country's interests.

On Sunday, May 18, in a major crackdown on cross-border drug smuggling, Commissionerate Police Amritsar busted an international narco-trafficking cartel and arrested three accused with 10.248-kg heroin, reported ANI.

Preliminary probe in the case revealed that the accused, Sandeep Singh, remained in touch with Pakistani smugglers from across the border for the past six years.

His arrest has led to the dismantling of a key smuggling network. An FIR under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act was registered at Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar.

A day earlier, in a major crackdown on the drug nexus, the Commissionerate Police Amritsar had busted a smuggling network and arrested three people with 1.01 kg of heroin, cash worth Rs 45.19 lakh – which allegedly were the proceedings of the crime – and a cash counting machine. FIRs were registered in the case under the NDPS Act at Gate Hakima and Verka police stations.
