Pune: Twenty-five vehicles, including a truck from Mumbai, were damaged and the air from their tyres removed at Wadgaon last night by a mob or 30-odd people carrying saffron flags and protesting against the film Padmaavat.
The incident took place around 11.24 pm on Tuesday on the Warje bridge. A case has been filed with the Sinhagad Road police station by Mahesh Bhaskar, 30, a resident of Dombivli East against 30 people. Bhaskar said, "I have a transport business and was driving my truck to Mumbai from Phaltan with a consignment of chocolate. We were using the Warje Bridge service road, when suddenly around 30 people charged on to the bridge with their faces covered in saffron flags and shouting that they would not let the movie Padmaavat be released. They stopped our vehicles and later started smashing the windows and letting out the air from the tyres."
Constable NR Nagargoje of Sinhagad police station said, "We rushed to the spot and detained a few people carrying saffron flags. They had damaged around 25 vehicles and many even had flat tyres. We had to bring in the mechanics to fill air in the tyres so that the vehicles could move on."
