Just a few hours after the start of day 4 of the Monsoon session of the Parliament, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm. The lower house of the Parliament was adjourned till 2:00 pm on Thursday following the opposition’s protests over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
This is the fourth consecutive day that the Question Hour of the Parliament has been disrupted since the start of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. With the heated debate on various topics going on in the upper house and the lower house of the Parliament continuing to grow on Thursday, smooth proceedings are yet to be observed.
As soon as the House met for the day, various Opposition members wanted to raise the issue of the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and also shouted slogans, which clearly disrupted the proceedings of the House.
According to PTI, some of the members were in the Well of the House and also displayed placards against the ruling party.
Furthermore, Speaker Om Birla even asked the protesting members to go back to their seats and assured them that, as per the rules, they would be given opportunities to raise issues.
The speaker of the Lok Sabha also went on to mention the name of senior Congress leader K. C. Venugopal and said this is not the culture of his party to indulge in sloganeering in the House.
Om Birla repeatedly mentioned that sloganeering and display of placards are not in accordance with the dignity of the House and wondered what kind of message such actions would send out across the country.
As a lot of unpleasant noise continued for a fair bit of time on the fourth day of the Lok Sabha proceedings, Om Birla adjourned the house in less than seven minutes.
However, it has also been reported by PTI that there was one question that was taken up before the proceedings were adjourned till 2:00 pm.
The opposition is demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, an exercise initiated by the Election Commission ahead of the state assembly polls due later this year.
