Representational pic</td></tr></tbody></table> Canada-based Internet research firm Information Warfare Monitor (IWM) recently reported that a Chinese cyber spy network has hacked into nearly 1,300 computers across 103 countries, including India. Infected machines include those at Indian embassies and other government organisations in the country and abroad. Cyber Cell Coordinator of the Pune Police Sudam Chaure agrees there is a need to upgrade skills. "E-governance has grown 10 folds in the last five years. Lakhs of mobile phones have entered rural areas, but only prominent cities in the state have police cyber cells. Policemen on bandobast duty find it difficult to attend our 15-day workshops on cyber security," said Chaure. According to Sanjay Tungar, the cyber cell in-charge at Pune Police commissionerate, "While we are working against cyber spying attempts, the police should work towards raising existing e-surveillance like security in the state was stepped up after 26/11. Incidentally, S P S Yadav, the additional director general, CID, told MiD DAY that he has written to the governor to get all cyber crime cases transferred to the CID. Chaure, however, said that the Cyber Cell of the Pune Police was fully capable of facing e-policing challenges posed by cyber criminals.
