1949 law sets Std IV, VII, X pass as criteria for membership depending on contestant's category, but activist argues parameters set over 60 yrs ago may not be relevant today
The Pune Municipal Corporation’s education board is responsible for management of all 274 schools in the city and recruiting 2,400 teachers, but the question arising is whether those tasked with selecting teachers are qualified enough to do so.
Elections for members of the education board are just around the corner and the criteria for the 15 contestants is that they should have passed Std IV, VII and X — depending on the category they are applying under — to make it to the board to manage the administration of PMC schools in the city. This process has been followed after Bombay Primary Education Act set these education parameters in 1949, which has not been amended till date.
