Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday alleged that the 2024 Haryana Assembly Elections were “stolen”, claiming that 25 lakh entries in the electoral roll were fake and accusing the poll body of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ensure its victory, news agency PTI reported.

Presenting what he called “The H-Files” at a press conference in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the manipulation was part of a “centralised plan” carried out in coordination with top BJP leaders. He claimed that a “Brazilian model’s” photograph was used 22 times in 10 polling booths in the Rai Constituency under different names such as Seema, Sweety, and Saraswati.

“The message is that Gen Z and the youth have the power to restore our democracy with satya and ahimsa — peacefully, but by expressing their desire for a democratic India and resisting this wholesale theft of democracy and murder of the Constitution,” Gandhi said at the press conference in Indira Bhawan.

The former Congress president alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were “not legitimately in government”, and accused the Election Commission of launching “Operation Sarkar Chori” to convert a Congress “landslide victory” into defeat, PTI reported.

“I am questioning the Election Commission and the democratic process in this country, and I am doing it with 100 per cent proof,” he asserted.

According to Gandhi, the electoral roll of Haryana contained 25,41,144 fake entries, including 5,21,619 duplicate voters, 93,174 invalid addresses, and 19,26,351 bulk voters, PTI reported.

“One in eight voters in Haryana is fake, and yet the Congress lost by 22,779 votes — the margin across eight seats. You can understand that there was no election in Haryana. There was a theft, and it is very clear who is responsible,” he claimed.

Gandhi further alleged that 1,24,177 fake photographs were used in the voter list and that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) “lied” to the public by stating that “house number zero” is assigned to homeless people.

“Why is the Election Commission not removing duplicates? Because if it does, elections will be fair — and they don’t want fair elections,” he alleged.

Gandhi also claimed that thousands of BJP supporters voted in both Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and described the system of “vote chori” as being “industrialised” and now extended to Bihar, where polling begins on Thursday.

“It is going to be used in Bihar too, and after the elections, we will show that the same thing has happened there,” he said, adding that his party would coordinate with other opposition groups against what he called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) “weapon”.

“If the voter list is a lie, there is no democracy. My role as an opposition leader is to tell you the real world that you are living in,” stated Gandhi.

When asked whether he would move court, he replied, “The Supreme Court, the highest court in the country, is watching... it is not hidden.”

He also played a video of Saini predicting BJP’s win two days before the counting, saying, “We have a system in place.”

“We suspected, after seeing what happened in Mahadevapura and Aland in Karnataka, that this was not limited to one constituency but was being done at the state and national level,” Gandhi said.

Responding to the charges, the BJP termed Gandhi’s allegations “false and baseless”.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that if there were irregularities in voting, Gandhi should take the matter to the Election Commission or the courts.

“But he never does it,” Rijiju said, accusing the Congress leader of defaming India’s democracy to cover his political failures.

The Election Commission too dismissed the allegations as unfounded, saying that no appeals were filed against the electoral rolls in Haryana.
