Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing and Revenue for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Diageo India, has been arrested in connection with the stampede that took place outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday evening, reported the PTI.

The tragic incident claimed the lives of 11 people and injured over 50 others.

According to the PTI, the Bengaluru Police, along with the Crime Branch, carried out a joint operation to arrest Sosale. He was taken into custody at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru while reportedly trying to fly to Mumbai.

Along with Sosale, two officials from the event management company DNA Entertainment Private Limited -- Sunil Mathew and Kiran Kumar -- were also detained, as per the PTI.

All three are being held responsible for lapses in planning and crowd management during the IPL victory celebrations hosted by the RCB team.

Speaking to PTI Videos, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh confirmed that few arrests have been made in the connection with the stampede case.

"Few arrests have been made. Our teams are taking up the case very seriously, and ultimately the case has to go to CID. So before going to CID, whatever legal formalities have to be done by our team, they are doing it," he said.

They were brought to Cubbon Park police station for questioning, sources said, adding that after medical examination, further process will be followed, the PTI reported on Friday.

An FIR was filed on Thursday against RCB, DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

According to police sources, the secretary and treasurer of KSCA are currently untraceable. Officers visited their residence but could not locate them, the news agency reported.

Following the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah instructed senior police officials to take immediate action.

CM Siddaramaiah has also ordered a thorough probe into KSCA, stating that there appeared to be “irresponsibility” and “carelessness” in how the event was handled, the news agency reported.

Meanwhile a petition was filed in Karnataka High Court on Friday seeking to quash the FIR filed against them by the police in the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede case.
