Get ready to fix a date with Edward Maya, the man behind the chartbuster - Stereo Lover -- who'll be in the capital this weekend

Edward Maya has finally arrived in ipods, pubs and night culture with his international chart buster Stereo Love, that has also received heavy applause from the desi crowd. The artist who is on a three-city tour in the country will be performing in the capital this weekend. Why you must attend this night, is what the young musician explains in his interview ahead.

Your last collaborative work with Russian DJ Vika Jigulina, Stereo Love, is topping Irish singles chart. How much of success is Vika's?
Vika has a great voice and as a celebrated music and artist, she added a lot of zing to Stereo Love. She can be soft and intense at the same time. Plus, her huge experience in mixing was an add-on.

Do you believe in a teamwork where pay cheques and fame is not just yours?
A: Money and credit is irrespective. Teamwork is any day better than working alone. It helps in blending best of talents and skills; thus ensuring you can deliver best results.

What about Romanian flavours in your compositions?
A: In Romania, music is an integral part of any family. My grandfather is a musician too, and I made music since I was a little child. Most of my compositions are influenced by the country's culture, interesting musical instruments and some moving incidents in my life. I often invite people to visit my studio in Romania.

With so much Romanian influence, why should global audience listen to you?
To make my music 100 per cent global, I work with instruments from all over the world. Whenever I travel, I keep buying and learning new instruments so that it can be used in my songs. In Stereo Love, we have used an instrument called accordion, a box-shaped musical instrument. I know how to play the piano, bassoon, accordion, flute and some old instruments like the douk, so my music is a combination between old oriental music and modern electronic music.

Do you ever feel that success has come a bit early to you?
u00a0I am a normal young man and I have a lot of ambitions. There are some big goals that I have set for myself in life. I always strive to make something good and new. Music is my first love and when you love what you do, you rarely stop and think about success.

Any Indian musician or music you have keenly heard?
I have heard some Indian music before I came here. India has a lot of good instruments; maybe I will try infusing some 'desi beats' in my future albums.

How rich is Romanian music?
A: Romania has a rich and active musical culture. Due to the varied nationality groups, there has developed a multi-cultural environment, which includes active ethnic music scenes. Romania also has thriving scenes in the fields of pop music, hip-hop, heavy metal and rock and roll. During the first decade of the 21st century some Europop groups, such as Morandi, Akcent, and Yarabi, achieved success abroad. Traditional Romanian folk music (sometimes performed by tarafs, or bands of gypsy musicians) remains popular, and some folk musicians have achieved national and even international fame.

How Edward Adrian Ilie became Edward Maya?
Because in Edward means illusion which is maya in Hindi.

What's in the playlist of your show?
A: There will be live shows and also a DJ set. All I can promise is a lot of surprises and loads of music. I plan to perform songs from my first album that will be released soon; which as of now have only been heard in concerts.

Audience differ from country to country, how do you strike the chord then?
The language of music is universal and wherever I travel abroad, I keep that in my mind. People may or may not know me, yet they groove to my music and songs. Though I'm coming to India for the first time, I've known the country through my fans here.

School stage or discotheque, which is special?
I have performed at school functions, social gatherings and along with friends, which was the best time ever.u00a0
