The release of Sufia Madani, the wife of cleric-turned-politician of Abdunnsar Madani, on bail has not only saved the Kerala government from a law and order problem but also saved them from a major embarrassment.

Sufia, who was alleged to have links with arrested terror suspect T Naseer,u00a0 wasu00a0 charged with hijacking and burning a Tamil Nadu government bus in 2005, during an agitation for her husband's release.

Madani was acquitted in 2007 after spending a decade in Tamil Nadu jails for allegedly plotting the 1998 serial blasts in Coimbatore that targeted at BJP leader L K Advani but succeeded in killing 58 people.

Nasar Madani had threatened to stage a hunger strike with his family to protest the alleged harassment of his family by the authorities following Sufia's arrest on December 17.

Security agencies had feared that Madani's protest could lead to a law and order problem triggered either by his supporters or by rivals.

Meanwhile, the city police continues to interrogate Naseer, who has revealed that he visited many countries, including Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Afghanistan. He is believed to have recruited and dispatched several youth for training to Pak-occupied Kashmir over the years.
