All of 16, Aqyaan Alam is all set to bring super bikes Suzuki GSR 600, Honda CBR 600, Suzuki SV1000, Kawasaki Ninja ZX 9R and Ducati 999S to the city soon. The bikes are awaiting customs clearance at Nhava Sheva.
"I was passionate about bikes and decided to get them for customers here. I posted ads in online classifieds and got a lot good response. I act like a broker and get bikes from the US, Japan, Australia and even UK," he says.
Alam began selling bikes when he was 13. "I wanted snazzy cell phones and the latest gadgets. My mum advised me to start earning," he said, adding that he takes a 10 per cent commission from each sale. With his father, a UK-based businessman, taking care of the customs formalities (super bikes have to pay custom duty and taxes in the range of 115 per cent to 150 per cent).
A Std XI student of RIMS International, Alam also customises bikes. "I use my father's store house in Undri to customise bikes and park ones that await delivery," he said.
Easy deal
Maneet Gujral (21), who owns a Ducati, bought a Honda CBR 400 RR through Alam for Rs 4.5 lakh last year. "I got to know about Alam through a friend and it was easier because he got all my customs formalities cleared," he says.
Alam still has two years to go before he can legally ride a bike. "But I occasionally take a spin on a CBR 600, Hayabusa and a Ninja which are with me," he admits sheepishly.
