Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express will operate a total of 58 scheduled and non-scheduled flights to and from West Asia on Wednesday, March 11, reported the PTI.
The airlines said services are being conducted carefully amid escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, as parts of the region’s airspace remain restricted or closed.
Both carriers will continue their regular flights to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Muscat in Oman.
Air India will operate eight flights to and from Jeddah, including one round-trip each from Delhi and Mumbai.
Air India Express will operate 14 scheduled flights to and from Muscat, along with one round-trip each from Hyderabad and Kozhikode to Jeddah.
Air India Express will also run scheduled services to Muscat, including one round-trip each from Delhi, Mumbai, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tiruchirappalli, and two round-trips from Kochi.
Non-scheduled flights to UAE
In addition to regular services, the two airlines will operate 36 ad-hoc non-scheduled flights to and from the United Arab Emirates, depending on slot availability and operational conditions at the departure airports.
All flights are being conducted with necessary approvals from Indian and local aviation authorities.
Delhi Airport issues advisory for passengers
Meanwhile, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on Wednesday advised international passengers to check the latest updates with airlines due to potential delays or schedule changes for westbound flights, according to the ANI.
In its advisory, DIAL stated: "Due to current geopolitical developments in the Middle East, some westbound international flights may see delays or schedule changes. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates with their respective airlines before heading to the airport."
Passengers are encouraged to access real-time flight information on the official DIAL website (www.newdelhiairport.in), seek immigration assistance via FRRO (afrro.igia@nic.in), and consider short-stay options near the airport such as Round D Clock or Aerocity hotels. DIAL added that all other flights are operating as scheduled.
Geopolitical context
Flight delays come amid heightened tensions in West Asia following US-Israel strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top leadership on February 28.
In retaliation, Tehran has attacked Israeli and US military assets, and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) recently launched the 37th wave of its Operation True Promise 4 late Tuesday night, continuing its ongoing military operations in the region.
Passengers are advised to monitor airline notifications closely and allow extra travel time to the airport.
