A whisker away from the bustling New Link Road, Andheri (West), is a quiet tree-lined lane that leads to writer and filmmaker Vinta Nanda's home. Vinta bought her beautiful 1,700 sq foot apartment exactly 10 years ago can't stop talking about her place.

I made my first home here when my mom and I came to Mumbai from Chandigarh. When I saw these buildings come up right opposite my rented house, I decided that I wanted to buy a flat and settle down here. The best thing about this decision was that I didn't have to relocate. It was the same neighborhood and I was close to my friends and my work, which was imperative considering my lifestyle and a very busy social diary. 
Interior check White is my favourite colour. I've painted all my walls white as it gives you a free hand to experiment with different coloured upholstery. Orange, black and green all find place in my scheme of things. And yes, I believe in keeping lots of plants too. I have a wood fetish and so the wood finish motif is recurrent throughout the place. The house is done up in a minimal, warm and spacious manner with luxuriant sofas and interesting photographs and pieces that also serve as talking points. We love the fresh-from-the-tava concept of food and the open kitchen with its island table perfectly fits our bill. A latticed wall unit with books on everything from art to cinema to psychology separates the rambling space between the kitchen and living room. While a baby piano holds the place of honour in one corner.u00a0 
Dream decor I have a treasure trove of mementoes from paintings and sculptures to antiques, which I have collected in my travels in movie making and social activism. I have also inherited a veritable selection of antique furniture from my grandparents and parents, and these occupy a place of pride in my home. Rather than finding things to decorate after buying the flat, I was looking for a flat to put up my myriad of things that have a great sentimental value for me! Favourite corner My favourite space is my working corner, which is nestled in a cul-de-sac between my spacious living room and bedroom. This way I am just two steps away from socialising and taking a quick siesta in the course of my working day. The layout of the two flats enabled me to design the space in a way that ensured privacy for my daughter and myself. A blessing, as both of us love to entertain and this way we have the option of giving the other person her space. 
At home It's incredible that I found such a secluded location in the midst of a busy Andheri. I have the benefit of easy access to everything as well as a peaceful retreat. I appreciate the silence as and when I don my writer's hat. More than anything, this is a home which reflects the people who live in it. Every chair, painting or plant has been hand selected and more often than not is a conversation starter at get-togethers. It bears testimony to the pleasant idea of a nomad finally finding a place to settle down!
