Three newborns died after a ventilator in the outborn babies’ compartment of the NICU caught fire. The infants were undergoing treatment in the special newborn care unit.

Hospital staff rushed to the NICU after the blaze erupted and evacuated the other babies. A total of 36 newborns were rescued following the incident.

A large crowd gathered at the hospital following the fire. Parents of children admitted to the NICU blamed the hospital administration for the tragedy.

Staff members safely evacuated babies from the affected unit and shifted them to other hospitals for further treatment. Six infants were later admitted to a super speciality hospital.

Some of the rescued infants were moved to the Divisional Referral Services Hospital. Four children were undergoing treatment there, with one reported to be in critical condition.

Amravati Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola said fire personnel and the PWD’s electrical wing had been informed to determine the cause of the blaze. The bodies of the deceased newborns were sent for postmortem.

Maharashtra Revenue Minister and Amravati guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and assured the affected families of all necessary assistance.
