The state government increased procurement of the moong crop from the earlier 25 per cent to 60 per cent for eligible farmers, providing significant relief to cultivators in districts such as Narmadapuram, Sehore and Harda.

To ensure more farmers benefit from the revised policy, the government extended the procurement deadline from August 10 to August 20 and the slot-booking deadline from July 30 to August 10.

The government suspended the e-token-based fertiliser distribution system with immediate effect. A committee will review complaints from farmers and recommend improvements before the system is reintroduced.

Earlier in the day, thousands of farmers marched through Bhopal, breached multiple barricades and reached close to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's residence after protesting outside Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's home.

The protesters demanded procurement of the entire summer moong crop at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), the abolition of the fertiliser e-token system and timely availability of fertilisers for the upcoming sowing season.

The agitation disrupted traffic on Bhopal's busy Narmadapuram Road from Tuesday night after initial talks with the government failed to resolve the deadlock, leading to prolonged demonstrations.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre had approved procurement of up to 4,54,580 metric tonnes of summer moong for Madhya Pradesh under the Price Support Scheme, while procurement beyond that limit would have to be undertaken by the state government.
