The protests by medical professionals continued in Kolkata on Friday, despite rain. The members of the medical community are demanding justice for a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee who was brutally sexually assaulted and murdered on August 9 in a state-run hospital in Kolkata. Doctors and nurses have also urged the authorities to ensure safety at workplaces. (Pics/AFP)

Apart from justice for the victim, the doctors are demanding that the government expedite the enactment of the long-pending Central Healthcare Protection Act, which seeks to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals across the country

The case is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Kolkata Police, which was earlier probing the sexual assault and murder, had arrested a civic volunteer for the crime
