The summit, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held here on May 23-24 where chief ministers of all the northeastern states, Union ministers, industry leaders, diplomats and others took part
Scindia, the Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), said the ministry has created eight high-level task forces across key sectors -- agriculture, sports, investment promotion, tourism, economic corridors, infrastructure, textiles and handicrafts, and animal husbandry -- allowing each state to chart its own roadmap, according to an official statement
The summit highlighted key initiatives which included nine domestic roadshows in major Indian cities, meetings with ambassadors from over 95 countries, six state-level roundtables, six sector-specific industry interactions, and extensive consultations with PSUs, industry chambers, and corporate leaders
Scindia praised Prime Minister Modi for not only recognising the vast potential of the northeastern region but fully embracing it. He noted that for six decades after Independence, successive governments failed to acknowledge the significance of this region, which once contributed nearly 20 percent to India's GDP. Scindia added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government adopted a comprehensive, all-inclusive approach to the region’s development
However in summit, industry leaders Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, and Anil Agarwal announced over Rs 1.55 lakh crore in investments for the Northeast. Ambani pledged Rs 75,000 crore over five years, Adani Rs 50,000 crore over a decade, and Agarwal over Rs 30,000 crore, focusing on sectors like agriculture, telecom, digital services, and local enterprise development
