Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to the Governor's Secretary as the Governor was not present in the state

Later, addressing a joint press conference in Bengaluru alongside Shivakumar and Home Minister G Parameshwara, Siddaramaiah said: “I have submitted my resignation from the Chief Minister’s post to the Governor’s Secretary.” The party leaders put up a show of unity before the media

Siddaramaiah, 78, now joins an elite group of Karnataka politicians who have occupied the CM's post more than once, including S Nijalingappa, Veerendra Patil, D Devaraj Urs, Ramakrishna Hegde, HD Kumaraswamy, and BS Yediyurappa

Over the course of his career, Siddaramaiah contested 12 assembly elections and won nine of them. He also holds the record for presenting 17 state budgets

Meanwhile, Shivakumar paid a glowing tribute to Siddaramaiah following his resignation from the top post, describing his political journey as a symbol of resilience, perseverance and commitment to social justice

Shivakumar further said Siddaramaiah had supported him since he was entrusted with the responsibility of serving as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president in 2020. Calling it a privilege to serve alongside Siddaramaiah as Deputy CM, Shivakumar said he had continuously learnt from the veteran leader's experience and political foresight

 He has been appointed as the caretaker CM of the state until further arrangements are made.
