Continuous heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Brahmaputra River have caused severe flooding in Assam. Many families in Morigaon and Darrang districts have been forced to leave their homes and move to nearby highlands to stay safe. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the floods have affected over 6.33 lakh people across 21 districts. Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing. In Morigaon district, many villages under the Mayong revenue circle are completely submerged. Families are struggling as water levels keep rising. This year’s floods have already claimed at least 12 lives, while five more people have died in landslides. On 3rd June, Tuesday alone, six people, including two children, drowned in the floodwaters. ASDMA reported one death each in the districts of Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Morigaon, Cachar, Sonitpur, and Tinsukia, and one person is still missing in Cachar. The floods have hit the districts of Hailakandi, Nagaon, Sribhumi, Kamrup, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Cachar, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Majuli, Karbi Anglong West, Darrang, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Dima Hasao, and Jorhat. The situation remains critical as authorities continue rescue operations and provide relief to those affected.
