In the wake of the deadly Air India AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad, the DGCA has introduced strict new draft rules to regulate high-rise structures near airports. The proposed Aircraft (Demolition of Obstructions) Rules, 2025, will empower authorities to identify and demolish or trim buildings and trees that breach safety height limits around aerodromes. The move is aimed at preventing future accidents caused by physical obstructions in flight paths. Property owners must comply within 60 days or face action. The government has invited public suggestions before final approval.
