The US State Department said India's long-standing relationship with Russia gives it a unique position to urge Putin for peace and respect Ukraine's sovereignty. They emphasized India's importance as a partner in managing relations with Russia. This comes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia drew criticism from Ukraine's President, who called it harmful to peace efforts.  The US hopes India can help bring a lasting peace in the conflict.
