Chicago: A white Chicago police officer who shot a black teenager 16 times last year was charged with first-degree murder, hours before the city released a video of the killing.

Ahead of the video&rsquo;s release late Tuesday on the orders of a judge, the white police officer Jason Van Dyke, who shot black teenager Laquan McDonald on October 20, 2014 was charged with first-degree murder. He is being held without bond.

A judge ordered that the recording be made public. Shortly after the video&rsquo;s release, protesters began marching through city streets. Several hundred people blocked traffic and circled police cars in an intersection and chanted &ldquo;16 shots.&rdquo;

'Right to be angry' &ldquo;People have a right to be angry. People have a right to protest. People have a right to free speech. But they do not have a right to... criminal acts,&rdquo; Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said.
The authorities say that McDonald was armed with a 3-inch knife when Van Dyke confronted him. The teen did not comply with police orders to drop the knife,&rdquo; the officer&rsquo;s attorney said.
