At least 89 people have died after a massive tornado swept through the Missouri town of Joplin in US, reports said today.

"The death toll is expected to rise. It's total devastation," Jay Nixon, Governor of Missouri told CNN. Nixon, who declared a state of emergency said, "We are responding aggressively, quickly. We want to make sure as the night goes on that we're saving lives between now and dawn". There are a number of injuries".
